Autbert of Mont St. Michel (d. 725)

St. Autbert was Bishop of Avranches in Normandy. Not much is know of his life save that he was the founder of the monastery of Mont Saint-Michel, perhaps one of the most famous Benedictine monasteries in the world. According to legend, Autbert had a vision of St. Michael commanding him to build a monastery on the rocky outcropping but repeatedly ignored the warning until the Archangel had to burn a whole in the bishop's skull with his finger. The Church was dedicated in 709, where Autbert was later buried. A skull with a hole in the top reputed to belong to Autbert is still on display in the monastery.
